Staircase lighting requires always careful planning. Staircases come in many shapes and sizes. And lighting has always to be carefully designed to the project’s specifications.
A good rule of thumb is ensuring that the staircase is safe to traverse.
This means that all the steps must be well lit and glare must be avoided.
However, lighting will also impact the aesthetics of the staircase.
So, how can you illuminate the staircase to create a lighting scheme that is unlike any other? Using solutions such as wall sconces and recessed step lights wouldn’t add anything new to the staircase.
That’s why OLEV has launched Ottomano, an original illuminated handrail. With an ergonomic 8-sided shape, Ottomano is installed directly onto the wall. Just like a normal handrail!
But, if a standard illuminated handrail only cast light downward, Ottomano instead features a double light source. First is towards the bottom, the light source placed at the bottom of the fixture illuminates the steps ensuring safety. Second is towards the wall, the light source placed inside Ottomano reflects light onto the wall, to provide the whole stairway with glare-free illumination.
This solution ensures safety and visual comfort and, above all, the resulting effect on the wall and on the stair steps looks beautiful.
